What We Believe
There is Always Hope
First and foremost, we believe there is always hope because of Jesus. He is the author and finisher of our faith, and in Him we live and move and have our being. No matter where you come from, what you have or haven't done, who you are, as long as there is breath in your body, there is hope for you in Jesus!
One God
We believe in one God, and that His name is Jesus. Ephesians 4:5-6 tells us there is "One Lord, one faith, one baptism. One God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." We believe that Jesus Christ was fully man and fully God. We believe that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God" (John 1:1-2). Colossians 1:15 tells us that Jesus "is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature." Jesus himself told Philip in John 14:9 "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father."
Salvation
We believe that we are all sinners who have fallen short of the grace of God, desperately in need of a Savior. We believe that a relationship with Jesus begins with faith in His saving name and His finished work on the cross.
We believe the plan for salvation was given to the church on the day of Pentecost when the crowd asked, "What must we do to be saved?" and Peter responded, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)
We believe repentance, baptism, and being filled with the Holy Spirit is a birth certificate, not a diploma. Matthew 24:13 says, "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."
Baptism in Jesus Name
We believe in baptism by immersion in Jesus' name. When Jesus gave instructions to His disciples in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, He didn't intend for them to repeat His instructions. He intended for them to fulfill them. Anytime someone was baptized in the New Testament (Acts 2, 10, 19), they were baptized in Jesus name.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe that when a follower of Jesus is filled with His Spirit, his or her life will begin to bear fruit. The fruit of the Spirit, as mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23, represent nine defining attributes of a godly life developed by the Holy Spirit, not through human effort alone: love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, patience, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
We believe that a Spirit-filled and Spirit-led church will operate in the spiritual gifts for the edifying of the body. These gifts, given by God to his church are at work today just as they were in the early church. (Romans 12, Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12)
We believe that an individual filled with the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues, just as the people gathered on the day of Pentecost did. In Acts 10, when Peter went to the home of Cornelius, the Bible tells us that they knew those in the house of Cornelius had been filled with the Holy Ghost because they began to speak in tongues. Speaking in tongues is evidence of the Holy Ghost, it is a gift used for the edifying of the church, and it is how we pray when words fail us, in utterances that the Holy Spirit understands.
Worship
We believe worship is more than a song, more than something we participate in solely on Sundays and Wednesdays. Romans 12:1 says, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." Worship is always a sacrifice, sometimes of our time, sometimes of our pride, sometimes of our effort.
In the context of our weekly services, worship could look like someone raising his or her hands in surrender. It could look like someone bowing low to the ground in humility and prayer. It could look like jumping up and down, dancing, clapping hands, or waving them in the air. Worship sounds like singing, lifted shouts of "Hallelujah," and "Thank you, Jesus." It sounds like instruments played skillfully and making a joyful noise. Worship looks like serving, whether as a door greeter, Sunday school teacher, or home Bible study leader.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the infallible word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..."
The Second Coming
We believe that Jesus Christ is coming back for His church, a bride who has made herself ready and is without fault or blemish. We believe that when He comes He will take His church from the earth and the dead in Christ will rise to meet Him in the air. We believe there is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to lose. We look forward to our savior's appearing!
